Tangled legs stretch against crisp sheets as the first rays of sunlight hit the bed. Mike shifts further to the edge of the bed to let Billie move beside him. He places a gentle hand on Billie’s chest, feels his heart beat, feels it rise and fall. Rise and fall. Billie remains sleeping.
Mike hasn’t slept all night.
Sleep would mean losing the feeling of Billie’s warm body against him, losing Billie’s tangled hair brushing against his chest. No. He’ll stay awake, as long as it takes, until Billie has to leave, and then he’ll sleep. Because he doesn’t want to be aware of Billie’s absence.
In the chaos of touring and waking up in a new country every day, there was one constant; no matter what the day brought, he always spent the night in Billie’s arms.
